1. DOES BAT EARS SURGERY LEAVE A SCAR?
The scar is almost invisible because it is located behind the ear, right on the sulcus formed by the ear and the head. Besides, as this area is formed of very thin skin, the scar itself tends to be “ almost imperceptible”.
2. WHAT KIND OF ANESTHESIA IS USED?
Children: general anesthesia
Adults: local anesthesia (or at the doctor's judgment)
3. HOW LONG DOES HOSPITALIZATION TAKE?
From 12 to 24 hours.
4. HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY LAST?
Generally, around 90 minutes (bilateral) or 60 minutes (unilateral)
5. DOES THE PATIENT FEEL PAIN DURING THE POST OP PERIOD?
Generally, no. But when there is intercurrence of little pain, we can solve it with regular analgesics
6. HOW ARE THE DRESSINGS?
We cover the scar with little dressings. During the first days, we protect the ear (mainly in kids) with a kind of cap to prevent local traumas.
7. WHEN ARE THE STITCHES REMOVED? DOES IT CAUSE PAIN?
Around the 8 th day. The stitches removal does not cause pain.
8. WHEN WILL I SEE THE FINAL RESULT?
Right after the removal of the dressing we can see 80% of the desired result. After 12 weeks, we can see the final one.
9. IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF RECURRENCE AFTER SURGERY?
This is a definitive surgical treatment. But we should point out that it might occur a slight asymmetry since even non-operated people with normal ears do not present absolute symmetry of the ears.
10. ULTIMATELY, WILL I GET A DEFINITIVE RESULT WITH A SINGLE SURGICAL PROCEDURE?
Generally, yes. Our aim is that the patient achieves the ideal shape in the most natural in aesthetic manner as possible. Some intercurrence may turn necessary a second surgical time. So, we can get a better result. This rarely happens but when necessary, it is done under local anesthesia, in a comfortable manner.
