EYELIDS

1. IS THERE AN IDEAL AGE TO HAVE YOUR EYELIDS OPERATED ON?
There is no ideal age; there is the right opportunity. What determines this opportunity is the existence of the problem to be corrected and this may happen at any age.

2.  ARE THE SCARS VISIBLE? WHERE ARE THEY LOCATED?
Since the eyelids have a rather thin type of skin, the scars tend to become concealed inside the skin sulcus. You should wait for the scar-maturing period (3 months). Because of their location, the scars can be concealed with light make-up since the very first days of the post-op period.

3. WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED?
Because of the surgery extension and the good quality anesthetics, most of the cases are done under local anesthesia (in some cases, we may use previous sedation). But rarely do we use general anesthesia, only when the local one is clinically counter-indicated (very rarely) or when this surgery is being performed simultaneously with other ones.

4. DOES THE PATIENT FEEL PAIN DURING THE POST OP PERIOD?
Generally, no. But even when there is intercurrence of little pain or some sensitiveness, this can be overcome with regular analgesics.

5.  DO THE EYES GET SWOLLEN? FOR HOW LONG?
The edemas on the eyes vary from patient to patient. Some may, on the 4 th -5 th day, present a rather natural aspect.

6. HOW LONG DOES HOSPITALIZATION PERIOD TAKE?
24 hours.

7.  HOW LONG DOES SURGERY TAKE?
Generally, around 90 minutes. In some cases, some details may require a longer period of time.

8.  WHAT ARE THE DARK CIRCLES OBSERVED IN SOME CASES?
Nothing else than blood infiltration in the underlying skin. On the ocular conjunctive, they are due to the surgical trauma itself. However, it should be mentioned that this does not constitute any future problem and is not considered a complication, being a mere temporary and reversible intercurrence.

9.  WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE THE FINAL RESULT?

After 3 months. Soon after the 8 th day, we will have already reached 25% of the desired result and during the 2 nd or 3 rd week this percentage improves considerably.

10.  DO THE EYES REMAIN closed DURING THE POST OP PERIOD?
Not necessarily. But we recommend the use of cold wet dressings for some minutes, many times during the day. The frequency should be controlled by the patient himself/herself. This is used as a prophylactic treatment for severe edemas.

11.  DOES THIS SURGERY HAVE A COMPENSATORY RESULT?
If you are aware of what you desire and the surgeon is able to fulfill your wish, it is undoubtedly a compensatory surgery. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that eyelids surgery does not promote facial rejuvenation if performed in isolation. And many patients expect this result. The plastic surgeon is only able to improve this area treating some of the pre-existing traces. Facial rejuvenation requires other procedures associated to blefaroplasty. Crowfeet, even if properly operated on, will never disappear because the stigma remains due to the action of the orbicular muscle and to the loss of elasticity of the remaining skin. But today, these problems can be clinically treated though reaching only temporary results.

12. ULTIMATE WILL I GET A DEFINITIVE RESULT WITH A SINGLE SURGICAL PROCEDURE?
Generally, yes. Our aim is that the patient achieves the ideal shape in the most natural in aesthetic manner as possible. Some intercurrence may turn necessary a second surgical time. So the result can be better. This rarely happens but when necessary, it is done under local anesthesia, in a comfortable manner.
